The time period chosen in relations to lung cancer is the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th to 19th centuries, was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Although it took off in Britain, it didn’t take long for it to quickly expand to the United States. Before then people lived in small rural communities and mainly depended on farming and small home business for their income; life was very difficult and people barely got by. After, it was as if the world bloomed. Skyscrapers started forming and towns stated forming faster than people. In particular, one of the reason the Industrial Revolution flourished is due to coal mining. As the country grew , so the need for coal. Because of this outbreak, many people were given jobs and ale to support their families. Both women and children were also given opportunities to work during this time also--even if the pay was unfair.
During this revolutionary period, it made a big impact to our country; not just economically but also our health. With the rapid bloom of factory they need coal to keep the machines running and money rolling in. Due to that the need for coal mines and miners was tremendous. Particularly in the Southern states at the time lots of coal mines stated to rise.
Miners had to work in small spaces to carry through resulting in being exposed to air filled with debris and dust. Through time the dust-build up caused problems to the miners. Not just so, because of large factories being brought up, the fumes from all the factories polluted the air and sicken people of all ages--not just the coal miners.
